STARBUCKS TO RUN ANTI-BIAS TRAINING

CEO of Starbucks Kevin Johnson had to treat the Philadelphia Starbucks arrest case which happened mid of April2018 with great and special attention.He ran his calculation and figured out the tremendous loss and damage that may happen. It is true that the damage has already happened the moment the video went viral on social media and just run a small search on google about the topic and you will be shocked with the number of articles written and the number of youtube videos watched, Starbucks knew that apologizing was not going to be enough especially that the case took a racial dress and it was not about trespassing, using a restroom or sitting without ordering, they knew that more steps has to be taken and they should move fast. The racial bias training is the first step towards fulfilling the promise that CEO gave when he apologized: he promised to fix it and that such incident will not happen at a Starbucks again.

| Policy changed |
By nature people resist change, maybe the same topic (using a restroom by a non-purchasing customer)would have been raised before and some incidents may have happened here or there and yet the policy stood firm without any change in the face of all of that.
This time they had to react and change the policy, now people are allowed to use Starbucks' restrooms and spend time in the stores without making any purchases

A small incident about what can be considered normal issue that does not relate to the core business of a company(its main products or services provided) can sometimes have catastrophic results has the company not dealt with the storm created by the incident swiftly and seriously.
Train your employees to be resposnbile for their actions and reactions and that each one of them is a"Risk Manager" regardless of the designation they hold. |
